It’s true that people refer to limitless energy as “clean.” We’re good with that, but clean is just one part of the story. Limitless energy is great because it’s infinite, increasingly affordable, already proven, and can be harnessed literally anywhere in our country. If we use more of it, we believe we can do a whole lot better for the people in our communities: lowering energy bills, making monthly budgets feel more reasonable, and even more epic things, like driving better innovation.

It sounds out of this world, but the team at NASA says, yeah. The sun blasts the Earth with 174,000 terawatts of power every second. Right now, we’re only capturing the teensiest, tiniest fraction of it. But thanks to recent leaps in solar and storage, we can harness so much more. And no: We don’t have to plaster the planet with solar panels to achieve it. Just a single stretch of desert could power everything.

That’s where batteries and storage come into play. They let us save electricity when the sun is shining or the wind is blowing, then use it later when people need it. Add hydro, nuclear, geothermal, and a smarter grid to the mix, and suddenly “what happens when the sun goes down?” has an easy answer.

Yes and no. If you’re reading this right now, it’s pretty safe to assume you’re using a battery on your computer. Batteries aren’t perfect, but compared to other ways of generating and storing energy, limitless energy is the cleanest way to power our world. No energy source can claim zero impact. But over its lifespan, solar and wind are at least 80% cleaner than the alternatives.

Yes. And it is. Global funding for limitless power has now soared to $2 trillion and is expected to reach $3 trillion soon. The world is investing nearly twice as much in solar and wind as it does in limited resources (think: fossil fuels). And guess what state is leading the charge? Texas, with limitless energy investments of more than $144 billion.
